What's powering Britain right now?
Live electricity generation, carbon and the cleanest times to use power, updated every few minutesBritain's electricity mix
The UK, nation by nation
The same moment can look very different across Britain. Windy Scotland can be running almost carbon free while parts of England and Wales lean on gas. Northern Ireland runs on a separate grid shared with Ireland. Tap a nation on the map, or pick one below, to see how it's doing right now.

Where your power's coming from
Every big power station and cable into Britain reports what it's sending every five minutes. Here's the latest reading in gigawatts (GW).
Power from abroad
Undersea cables link us to Europe and Ireland. When it's cheaper over there, we import; when our wind is strong, we export.

Here's how much carbon each unit of electricity is forecast to carry over the next 24 hours.
Why should your business care?
Business electricity is moving to half-hourly settlement (MHHS), so when you use power is about to matter as much as how much. The hours when the grid's dirtiest are usually the hours when it's dearest too. If you can shift heating, charging or machinery away from the early-evening peak, you'll cut carbon and costs.
Check your MHHS riskLet us find the right contract for how you use power
At Black Sheep Utilities, we look at when your business uses electricity, not just how much, and find contracts that suit it, from time-of-use rates to fully renewable tariffs. No pressure, just straightforward advice.
Get a quoteHow green is your supplier's electricity?
The grid's mix changes by the minute, but every supplier has to tell you the mix behind the electricity it sold over the year. It's worked out from the renewable certificates it buys, so two businesses on the same grid can buy very different mixes.
A supplier that buys no certificates gets the UK residual mix, the leftover power that isn't backed by any. That's mostly gas, and we've marked those suppliers Same as the grid. Tap any supplier to see its full history. Want a greener mix without paying over the odds? That's exactly what we're here for.
