Business Energy Savings Calculator

See what you're paying and what a better rate is worth to your business

Enter your usage and unit rate from a recent bill and you'll see what that fuel costs you a year, and what every penny off your rate is worth. Had a renewal letter or a quote? Compare it with what you pay now in two quick steps. Electricity and gas are separate: use one or both.

Your figures

Step 1 of 4

What you pay now

Use the figures from a recent bill. Nothing is saved at this step.

Got a new price? Compare it

Had a renewal letter or a quote? Tell us who it's for and when your contract ends, then add the new rates and see what they'd cost you against what you pay now.

Figures are before the Climate Change Levy and VAT, which don't change when you switch or renew. They show what a lower rate is worth to you, not a promise of a saving: your real price depends on what suppliers quote for your sites.

Want your real saving?

We compare prices from suitable suppliers for your sites and negotiate with your current supplier too. Ask for a quote, send us a recent bill, or book an appointment and we'll get your meter details and real usage from the industry before we talk. Prefer to talk? Call us on 01273 914000.

Step 2 of 4

Compare a new price: who is it for?

First, your business and when your current contracts end, then the new rates. Pressing Next saves these with your figures, so we can check the new price against the market for you.

It's on your contract or your renewal letter. A rough date is fine, and if it has already ended, enter the date it ended.

When you press the button we keep your company name, site postcode and what you entered in this tool, and may contact your business about your results and your energy contracts. See our privacy policy for how we handle your data.

Step 3 of 4

Your new price

Enter the rates from your renewal letter or quote, and who it's from. Use the same units as your bill: pence per kWh and pence per day.

For each supplier: your current supplier if it's a renewal letter, or the supplier that quoted you.

Offered a deal by another broker? We'll check it

We often see brokers offering a price that changes once you've signed, or promising to get you out of your current contract. Send us what you've been given: quotes, offer letters, emails or bills. Tell us who it's from and their website, and we'll check who they are, whether they're a registered broker, and how the price compares. Then we'll tell you what we find.

Step 4 of 4

Book an appointment for your real saving

Pick a time for a call and give us permission to check your meters, supplier and usage with the industry first. We'll bring real prices to the call and show you what you could save. It doesn't sign you up to anything.

Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. We'll confirm the time with you.

Meter Information and Data Access Authority

We will use this to obtain your meter, supplier and consumption information so we can provide quotations and arrange utility procurement. This does not place you into a contract, does not commit you to a quote, and there is no fee for obtaining this information. Your authority lasts 12 months unless you tell us to stop sooner.

What this authority allows, and what it doesn't

It allows us to:

  • Obtain supplier information.
  • Obtain meter information.
  • Obtain consumption information.
  • Contact suppliers regarding this information.

It does not:

  • Place you into a utility contract.
  • Require you to accept a quotation.
  • Create any fee solely for obtaining this information.

Version MIF-DAA-v1.0. You can withdraw it at any time by emailing [email protected].

We'll use these details to obtain your meter, supplier and consumption information and to contact you about it. We keep the authority record, with the date, time, IP address and browser, as proof of your permission. See our privacy policy for how we handle your data.

Your bill has every figure you need

  • Annual usage. Electricity bills show your estimated annual consumption (EAC) and gas bills your annual quantity (AQ), both in kWh. It's what your supplier expects you to use in a year.
  • Unit rate. The price per kWh, in pence. If you've a day and night rate, use the one you use most, or ask us to work it out across both.
  • Standing charge. The daily charge in pence that you pay whatever you use.

Not sure which line is which? We'll show you how to read your business energy bill line by line, or send us a recent bill and we'll pick out the figures for you.

Your unit rate does most of the work

For most businesses the unit rate is the biggest part of the bill, so a small change goes a long way. On 25,000 kWh of electricity a year, every 1p per kWh off your rate is worth £250 a year. That's why we negotiate the rate for every site rather than taking the first price a supplier offers.

Timing counts too. If a fixed contract ends without a new one in place, you move onto out-of-contract rates, which are usually more expensive than fixed-term contracts. We always advise arranging your next contract early, normally 12 months before your renewal date, and we'll manage the timetable for you.

Questions people ask

Is the saving the calculator shows guaranteed?

No. It shows what a lower rate would be worth to you, worked out from the figures you enter. Your real saving depends on the prices suppliers quote for your sites, which depend on your usage, your meters, when your contract ends and how long you fix for. Call us on 01273 914000 and we'll get you real prices to compare.

Does the calculator include VAT and the Climate Change Levy?

No. It works on your unit rate and standing charge only, before the Climate Change Levy and VAT. Both are set by the government rather than your supplier, so they don't change when you switch or renew, and leaving them out keeps the comparison like for like.

Where do I find my annual usage?

Your bill shows it. For electricity look for your estimated annual consumption (EAC), and for gas your annual quantity (AQ), both in kWh. If your bill only shows the units used this period, add up a year of bills or send us a recent bill and we'll work it out for you.

Where is your Energy Bill Relief Scheme calculator?

It has its own page. Both schemes have ended: the Energy Bill Relief Scheme ran from 1 October 2022 to 31 March 2023, and the Energy Bill Discount Scheme from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024. You can still check the support your supplier should have given you with our Energy Bill Relief Scheme calculator, linked above, which covers both schemes. This calculator is about today: what a better price is worth to your business now.
